Looking for horse fencing? At Equspaddock we manufacture PVC fencing in Ibi (Alicante, Spain) for arenas, paddocks, riding schools, fields and lunging pens. Our range includes fixed fencing at 100, 120 and 150 cm (approx. 3’3″, 3’11” and 4’11”) with 1, 2 or 3 rails, portable fencing in sections, and gates from 1.5 to 4 metres. And if your yard needs a different size or layout, we make it to measure.

PVC horse fencing models: heights and rails

These are the configurations in our range and what we recommend each one for:
Model Height Rails Recommended use
Fixed fencing 100 cm (3’3″) 1 Marking out and dividing areas
Fixed fencing 120 cm (3’11”) 2 Riding arenas and schooling areas
Fixed fencing 150 cm (4’11”) 3 Fields, lunging pens and horse walkers
Portable fencing 134 cm / 4’5″ (3-rail model) 1, 2 or 3 Temporary arenas, competitions, events and areas that change layout

Our 120 cm fence with 2 rails is the most common choice for arenas. For fields and areas where horses work loose, the 150 cm fence with 3 rails gives extra height and smaller gaps between rails. If you need to put the fencing up and take it down, our 134 cm portable fence with 3 rails goes up in 2.5 m (8’2″) sections.

How high should a horse fence be?

The right height depends on how long the horse spends loose in the area and how fast it moves alongside the fence. As a guide (always measured from the ground):
  • Riding arenas: around 120 cm (3’11”). The horse is ridden or led, so the fence marks the boundary without getting in the rider’s way.
  • Fields and paddocks: 140–150 cm (4’7″–4’11”). Horses spend hours turned out and have more chances to test, lean on or try to jump the fence.
  • Lunging pens and horse walkers: around 150 cm (4’11”). The horse works loose and close to the perimeter, so a tall, continuous fence is advisable.

A common rule of thumb for turnout areas is to set the top rail at roughly the height of the horse’s withers. Choosing a model per area means you don’t have to over-specify the whole yard.

How to choose: height, rails and colour

Before asking for a quote, check these points:
  • Type of area: arena, paddock, riding school, field or lunging pen.
  • Height: 120 cm for arenas; 140–150 cm for fields, lunging pens and horse walkers.
  • Number of rails: 1, 2 or 3. More rails mean smaller gaps, which is recommended for foals, ponies and horses working loose.
  • Colour and visibility: white fencing is the most visible to horses. Orange or red post caps help mark corners and entrances.
  • Access: how many gates you need and how wide.

PVC vs timber horse fencing

Timber has a rustic look and can cost less upfront, but it needs regular treatment and many horses chew it. PVC needs no treatment and keeps a clean finish outdoors. That’s why we make our fencing in PVC: strong, highly visible and low-maintenance.

Fixed or portable horse fencing for arenas and events

If the perimeter will stay the same, fixed fencing is the most solid option. Portable fencing goes up in 2.5 m sections, so you can change an arena layout, set up temporary areas for a competition or remove the fence when you don’t need it. It comes with 1 rail, 2 rails or 3 rails.

Why fence your horse areas?

Fencing is essential in any equestrian facility. It defines the space where horses work or graze without leaving the property and, above all, keeps them safe at all times.

Our fencing is built to withstand knocks and the weather. As well as marking out the area horses share, it stops them from getting onto tracks or roads with traffic. For safety, we advise against wire or metal-tube fencing, which can injure a horse on impact.

Where to use it: paddocks, riding schools, arenas and lunging pens

Most yards combine several areas with different needs. Our fencing adapts to paddocks, riding schools, arenas, fields, lunging pens and horse walkers by changing the height and number of rails. If you’re setting up a dressage arena, complete it with our dressage arena kits.

Gates and fencing accessories

We make 1.5 m and 2 m gates for everyday access for horses and people, and 3 m and 4 m double gates for tractors, trailers and arena maintenance machinery. To finish each section, we offer post caps and rail end caps.

Horse fencing FAQs

Around 120 cm (3’11”) for riding arenas, 140–150 cm (4’7″–4’11”) for fields and paddocks, and around 150 cm (4’11”) for lunging pens and horse walkers, always measured from the ground.

At Equspaddock we make fixed fencing at 100, 120 and 150 cm with 1, 2 or 3 rails, and portable fencing in 2.5 m sections. If none of them fits your yard, we make it to measure.

Work out the perimeter and subtract the width of the gates. A 20 × 40 m arena needs 120 linear metres (about 394 ft) and a 20 × 60 m arena needs 160 metres (about 525 ft). With portable fencing in 2.5 m sections, 120 metres is 48 sections.

Measure the perimeter, choose the height based on how the area will be used, pick the number of rails and place gates where horses and machinery need to pass. With those details we can recommend a model and prepare your quote.

PVC needs less maintenance and keeps its finish better outdoors. Timber has a more rustic look, but it needs regular treatment and horses tend to chew it.

A 1.5 or 2 m gate is enough for everyday access for horses and people. For tractors, trailers or machinery, a 3 or 4 m double gate is the better choice.
